Dan heard his coworkers talking about going to see the avengers movie (end game) last Friday and knew they’d all be talking about it on Monday.
Dan desperately wanted to be part of the conversation on Monday so despite having a jam packed weekend he found time to squeeze in this movie.
And on Monday he got his reward. He delighted in discussing the movie at length with his colleagues and joked about those who hadn’t seen it yet.
I think a huge factor to the popularity of the likes of Avengers and Game of Thrones is the social anxiety people have about missing out.
Don’t get me wrong these productions are very good entertainment and there are true fans who would watch it even if it wasn’t popular.
But there is undeniably a segment of people who consume simply to be included in the water cooler chat.
