Empty threats, promise and proposals

• Empty threat: The person will not actually carry out the attack they are talking about.
• Empty promise: The promisor is saying one thing but meaning another.
• Empty proposal: The person suggesting the idea doesn’t actually intend to follow through with it. 

Easiest way to deal with all three of these is to call their bluff and ask for a commitment.
