Recently I saw a man with a peculiar calf tattoo.
It appeared to be a clock, with a list of names underneath it.
I soon realized that this tattoo was referring to the 1958 Munich air disaster when the plane transporting a number of Manchester United players crashed and unfortunately 23 people died (the Manchester United crest beside it helped with the realization).
Now this is a fairly obscure tattoo and you’d have to know your Manchester United history to get the reference and I think this is exactly why this man chose that particular tattoo.
It is a sign to others in the know that this man is one of them.
It is a way to distinguish himself as a true die hard Manchester United follower and not some fair weather fan.
Getting a tattoo of your favourite football club is a strong level of commitment but this man aims to reach an even higher level by separating himself from those fans who sport a simple crest tattoo (which ironically he also has right beside it).
