Travel experience is one of the many ways one can gain the upper hand in the wrestle for status roles.
You often see in seemingly ‘pleasant’ conversations surrounding holidays, there lies a hidden wrestling match for status roles.
The one who has traveled further or who had a more adventurous holiday is the victor!
Why?
Because it makes for better conversation. In the contest for most interesting contribution to the conversation the person who offers stories from distant and exotic locations trumps the person who visits the same holiday home each year.
An easy way to verify this theory for yourself is if you feel a mixture of shame and embarrassment when sharing your ‘stay-cation’ plans to those who swam with dolphins then you may be experiencing a low status position.
