‘Emoluments? It’s like tips.’
‘So why didn’t you just say tips?’
‘Because I wanted to say emolument’
‘But it means the exact same thing as tips?’
‘Yeah but..’
‘And it’s quicker to say tips too?’
‘It’s not that much quicker’
‘Well it’s quicker then having to explain it’
Some people are so desperate to appear smart that they will intentionally use language to confuse others. Or maybe not confuse but to show off that they know how to use long obscure words.
Which is fine, to each their own.
But if the appearance of being intelligent is hindering your ability to get your message across then it’s not a very smart tactic is it?
