I was part of a team once where at every halftime the captain would address the team.
It would’ve been great if he provided any insight but usually his speeches were just a collection of generic statements.
The rest of the players knew this and let the half time talks wash over them.
The coaches entertained the captain because they knew that the half time talks weren’t for the players they were for the captain.
It was an exercise in providing himself with advise out loud under the illusion of doing it for others.
Sometimes people are talking just to feel good, they don’t care if others don’t receive the message, they’re doing it for themselves.
Weird isn’t it? And yet since I noticed it I see it more and more.
