Back to the future provides great entertainment with the time travel but it is really about Marty’s relationship with his parents.
The references to Chuck Berry & Ronald Reagan in the film are very amusing but the emotional depth comes from Marty doing what has crossed everyone’s mind, he sees what his parents were like when they were young.
Marty’s time traveling allows him to see his parents in a new light. One that leads him to being more sympathetic towards his parents and their situation. It also offers him a unique opportunity to play Cupid and get his parents together.
Overall it’s no wonder this movie is a classic, it’s a great mix of entertainment and emotion.
