BOD asking permission

I was at an ‘Off the Ball’ showing recently and Paul Howard was being interviewed by Brian O’Driscoll and the topic of permission came up.

The way Drico asked the question was in the form of likening it to asking neighbours for permission to extend one’s house. I thought this was a fairly innocuous comment and not worth noting but a ripple of laughter broke out in the crowd.

Then I realised that BOD had made a joke about his own life, banking on the audience to be up to date on his housing situation.

Well the joke sailed right over my head but clearly resonated with a segment of the audience. And with that little acid test it became clear I was not as big a fan of Brian O’Driscoll as certain members of the audience.
