Late audience members

“We are going to delay starting the show to allow the rest of the audience to arrive”

Have you ever heard this before?

If you have then you showed up on time and had to wait.

But the thought that crossed my mind was – when did the audience gain such power?

I’ve seen this happen at sporting events and surely the game going ahead is more important then making sure a few punters see the start.

This delaying makes it sound more like the entertainment business then the sporting business.

Also catering to the late few can have negative effects of course. What if the audience start to abuse their power and saunter in whenever they like?

What if the organisers dealt with this differently and didn’t tolerate this tardiness instead they started on time, regardless of the numbers in the stands?

Well then it could be assumed that the late comers will learn their lesson, that there is no leeway when it comes to kick off times. It will start whether you are there or not.
