Every year the King leaves his castle, visits the village and addresses his people.
The first time the King visited, he announced an improved sewage system will be put in place and it was met with raucous applause.
The next year the King discussed his plans to improve the safety of the village and it was received with some appreciation.
The third year the King spoke of his intentions to increase the wealth of the kingdom by establishing trade agreements with neighbouring regions and in a crowd of hundreds of villagers, only a few clapped.
What was happening?
Well after each of the King’s speeches, the villagers saw no sign of change.
There was no sign of implementation of a sewage system, safety measures or new trade agreements.
The villagers had come to learn that the King was making empty promises. He wasn’t going to commit to any of these plans. The villagers had become jaded and adopted the view of:
“We’ll believe it when we see it”
