“Not my mess, not my problem!”
A comment that highlights our aversion to work. All of a sudden dirty dishes have become a matter of principle.
We can accept being responsible for cleaning up after ourselves but not others. That’s where we draw the line!
I reckon at the root of this comment is the fear that
‘If I start cleaning up after others then where does it end?’
The mess continues to exist as the group tries to assign accountability.
As everyone has the same view:
“I hate cleaning and I don’t want to be doing any more then I have to!”
‘Have to’ is determined by whatever your social group has deemed ‘fair’.
