Scheduling for setbacks

I made a movie recently (link) and when I was nailing down the separate deadlines, I added two weeks extra. I felt a small bit guilty about this. That maybe I was taking it easier on myself. But flash forward two months and I published just a day after I planned. Just one day after the very generous deadline I gave myself.

So what happened?

The unexpected!

Things that were completely out of my control arose.

My lead actor couldn’t do any acting as they got a massive bruise on their face.

The software having been perfect up until now, failed on me.

By the end of it I was glad I had scheduled that extra time.

It’s funny how often plans do not incorporate setbacks or the unexpected. How they expect everything to run smoothly.

Well now I know, lesson learned!
