It’s 3am and you still haven’t been seen. The emergency room chairs are only adding to your pain and your words have now become gibberish as you reach the edge of your sanity.
This uncertainty is causing you agony.
Had they said at the start you’re going to be seen at 3:30am, you could’ve planned accordingly.
You could’ve gone home, slept for a bit and come back in.
But they don’t know when you’re going to be seen.
It could potentially be the next few minutes or ten hours more, nobody knows.
So now let’s get down to the meaty bit.
Do you leave?
You’ve reached the end of your tether and you want to leave but some part of you pipes up to say:
“You’ve been here 7 and a half hours, you might as well wait just a bit longer”
Or
“If you leave now those 7 and a half hours would’ve been for nothing”
Now in my opinion you have to ignore this voice.
Ignore sunk costs.
They don’t help you. The 7.5 hours are irrelevant. Anyone that arrives with a more serious injury will still be seen before you.
Your injury is clearly not that serious if you haven’t been seen yet.
Leave and book an appointment with a GP.
Ignore the sunk costs.
