I think rushed work is rarely good work. I think you do your best work when you’re relaxed.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying don’t have deadlines, by all means have deadlines. They definitely help. But set a deadline that gives you ample time to think the project through.
When you’re rushing to finish a project your mental bandwidth shrinks to one thought – just get it done! You can’t stop to consider other options, you don’t have the time.
Then the stress and anxiety of not hitting the deadline kicks in and you start to cut corners or do whatever you can to make the deadline.
Ok so if we take my hypothesis as true (rushed work is rarely good work). Then let me propose two suggestions for why rushed work happens.
1) The resistance. Procrastination until it’s an emergency. Or…
2) People are eager to please and one week is always going to sound better than two weeks.
