Passion is developed not inherited

I believe passion is developed not inherited.

I don’t believe that anyone is willing to dedicate 8 hours a day to a subject straight from birth.

I think everyone goes through stages, starting with enjoyment. You have to enjoy the activity in its most basic form first before any passion can flourish and enough enjoyment must be gained for you to seek the next level.

Then the rest of the stages are a series of trade offs.

“Am I willing to put in more time and effort into learning more and bettering myself in this field?”

With each choice to dig in and invest more time and effort the more rewards available and more the passion grows.

So when someone is contemplating what to do with their life and they hear…

“just do what you’re passionate about”

…it can be extremely frustrating because they may not have committed to any activity long enough to feel passionate about it and then they spend ages trying to search for their non existent hidden passion.

Those that are passionate about causes don’t need to stop and wonder what to do with their life because they already found something they love, it’s just a matter of turning that into a day job.

I must say that the first stage of enjoying the activity is crucial as investing time and effort to reach the next level in an area you’re not interested in is going to feel like torture.
