Approval and deniability

Everyone on the team is happy with the design.

The developers have readied the website.

The factory have confirmed they can build it.

The ads have been written.

The agency notified.

Everyone is poised, ready to go. Their hard work for the past year is about to come to fruition.

All they need is the green light from above… But the CEO hasn’t replied to the email yet and the deadline is nearing!

Que the almost comical frantic chasing of a superior for a single word response.

“Approved”

At this point I’m going to interject with a question – Do you search for approval because you have to? Or because you want to?

Receiving approval means acquiring deniability.

If it doesn’t work, you can always shift the blame to the higher up who approved it.

If deniability is the only reason your project is missing all it’s deadlines, then I think it’s time to start approving things yourself. And if the worst should occur  then you put your hand up and take responsibility for your actions.

It’s as simple and terrifying as that.
