Coerced engagement

Fostering engagement within a group can be difficult work.

Your messages may garner no replies consistently.

You may well stand at a metaphorical fork in the road to choose your methods.

The path on your left is a positive route. It involves rewarding engagement in order to encourage it.

The path on the right is a negative route. It consists of acquiring engagement through threat of punishment. Individuals feel forced to engage out of fear of being disciplined.

I think if the positive route doesn’t work immediately then the remedy is not to switch over to the negative side but to refresh the tactics and try something new.

After all engagement by choice beats coerced engagement every day of the week.
