Good is the enemy of great

‘Good is the enemy of great’ Jim Collins

That’s a fantastic quote isn’t it? 

When I first read it, I couldn’t make any sense of it. 

I thought to myself:

‘Good and great are both positive, how could good be the enemy of great? Surely Mr. Collins meant poor is the enemy of great.’

Then I understood the wisdom of the quote (someone probably pointed it out to me) and now I love it. 

Therefore I am going to use this quote as inspiration for today’s blog post and I hope the following helps you understand the quote too. 

When faced with the practicality of reaching that greener grass we look around and realise the field I’m standing in now is actually a lovely shade of emerald. 

It’s like a self sabotaging gratitude. 

It’s not a coincidence that when Bertie saw how much effort was required to reach his lofty goal he suddenly lost interest. 

Good sabotages great when someone settles for less. 

‘We don’t need to keep going, this will do’

When life is good, there’s no need to strive for great. 

I think Mr. Collins has hit upon something very interesting.
