I played two games of tag rugby recently.
I was on the winning team on both occasions but didn’t attain the same level of satisfaction.
The first game we won comfortably. It wasn’t very taxing and by half time it was over as a competition. We cruised through the second half to victory.
Now the second game was a completely different story.
It was an extremely challenging match, as a team we were pushed to our limits, each play required 100% focused attention and there was never a moment’s rest.
Safe to say the second win was a lot more satisfying.
The reward was made all the sweeter by the challenge.
I don’t think anyone would argue against this. I posit anyone else in the same position would reap greater satisfaction from the second win.
A hard earned prize is immensely satisfying.
So if everyone would agree, why do people shy away from challenges?
A challenge offers you greater development, a more engaged experience and when overcome, higher levels of satisfaction.
On the other hand challenges are difficult, require hard work and contain the strong possibility of failure.
Ugh! Why can’t rewards be made sweeter by convenience?!? 😀
