Watching a leader take a chaotic situation by the scruff of its neck is a sight to behold. To see someone corral a group of headless chickens and lead them out of madness is great.
The leader is animated, solving problems left, right and center, giving clear concise directions to their followers.
As impressive as this thriving under pressure is, I don’t believe this behaviour is necessary all the time. Well at least it shouldn’t be. If the leader is any good after the crisis they should bring some normality and stability to proceedings.
I think smooth sailing requires much more boring behaviour, like listening to the decapitated poultry.
