Felix has four college roommates.
Felix is a very clean boy.
Every night after dinner, Felix goes straight to the sink and cleans his dirty dishes.
Occasionally Felix will see his roommates’ dirty dishes left by the sink. And occasionally Felix will be feeling generous and will clean his roommates’ dirty dishes for them. It doesn’t take much and it makes him feel good so he doesn’t mind.
Now I think Felix should continue cleaning others’ dishes as long as it makes him feel good. But as soon as it starts to feel like a burden or that he’s being taken advantage of he should stop. Because if he feels like he’s being taken advantage of it’s only going to lead to resenting his roommates. And we don’t want that, that’s no fun for anyone!
So I think the key here for Felix is to help when he feels like it.
That way he still gets his warm fuzzy feeling from helping others and protects himself from feeling exploited.
