‘What is the purpose of this exercise?’
Most people don’t ask that question. Most people accept the explanation and follow instructions.
They don’t question the instructor because questioning the instructor might offend them and might earn you a confrontation you don’t want.
Although it may be scary to ask, this is a valuable question.
‘What’s this for?’ Can be a great starter question that leads to highly effective exercises.
Also it’s not a certainty that asking the question will offend the instructor. They may welcome the inquiry and take the time to describe the purpose.
If you are terrified to ask you can always frame it as a question to improve your learning from the exercise.
