Each time I login to ‘The Creatives Workshop’ there is a moment of despair as I see the amount of notifications that have accumulated since my last visit.
Each notification representing an action, each looking for a thoughtful reply.
A thoughtful reply that takes significant emotional labour.
It’s at this moment that my lazy brain musters the reasonable argument: look at the amount of notifications there are, yesterday you spent two hours replying to comments. Is two hours a day replying to comments really sustainable?
As I gaze at the overwhelming mountain Mr. Lazy strikes again – this is the time to walk away. This is it, this is the dip.
It turns out to be a fleeting moment as I swiftly remind myself that this mountain is only going to turn into a molehill if I chip away at it.
‘Yeah I guess’ and I get to work.
Then I realise that wasn’t the dip. It was foolish to think that was the dip.
The dip comes when you’re exhausted and you look up to see you’re only half done.
Mr. Lazy side perks up again and suggests quitting again.
It’s considered.
Before Mr. Logic comes along and points out that the situation won’t get any better by avoiding it.
‘Yeah alright, come on then, let’s get to it’.
I think there’s no limit to dips, there’s no dip quota per project. Theres no adjudicator who verifies your dip and guarantees a smooth sailing project from here on out.
I think it’s more like a constant argument between laziness and logic.
