In the US Office there is an episode where, the CEO at the time, Jo Bennett storms into the Scranton branch and announces that someone here leaked to the press that the Sabre printers catch on fire and that person is going to be in big trouble.
Then low and behold a great fear grips the office.
Everyone panics and asks themselves ‘Oh god am I the one?’
The employees start to obsess and scrutinize every innocuous conversation they have had with outsiders.
If Jo Bennett wanted to strike terror into her staff and make everyone fear for their jobs whether guilty or not then the ambiguity of ‘someone’ did that perfectly.
The uncertainty made everyone question their actions.
It made even the innocent and well behaved anxious.
