Dietrich’s best

Coach Mahomes stood by the door as his team jogged out of the locker room.

‘Hang on Dietrich’

Dietrich stepped aside and coach mahomes waited for everyone to leave the dressing room before saying:

‘I need 10 points today Dietrich, can you give me 10 points today?’

‘I’ll do my best’ replied Dietrich

‘But can you give me 10 points?’ coach Mahomes repeated forcefully. He was hungry for that guarantee.

‘I’ll do my best’ replied Dietrich.

Coach Mahomes likes his sure things.

He likes to know if he does X, he will get Y.

Dietrich on the other hand knows that there is no guarantees in life and aiming to do better than his best is illogical.

He draws confidence not from his past performance or achievements but from his assuredness that he will give his best no matter what.

Regardless of the weather, opposition or illness Dietrich will leave it all out there.

His team may have lost by 50 points but Dietrich could be proud of his performance because he held nothing back from the first whistle to the last.

Dietrich protects his confidence from external uncontrollable factors and reaps the benefits such as removing performance anxiety.
