I’m reading ‘Small is the new big’ by Seth Godin and it’s funny to see how Seth has progressed.
‘Small is the new big’ was published in 2006 and it contains a small passage where Seth riffs on the hypothetical type of business school he would create.
Now, fifteen years later, Seth has a business school. Through his company Akimbo he runs workshops such as ‘The Marketing Seminar’ and it’s flagship course the Alt MBA.
What’s funny to me is that ‘Small is the new big’ proves that this idea of a school has been percolating in Seth’s mind for at least 15 years.
Now the idea wasn’t fully formed 15 years ago.
Having taken a course I saw elements that made it into the workshop and ideas that clearly fell by the wayside.
What’s interesting to me is that, in the time between today and 2006 Seth must’ve continued to nurture his idea.
He didn’t let it die.
He played with the notion long enough that eventually he had a fully formed plan and the time came to put it into action or kill it.
Fortunately, for me and Seth, he created his school and Ive learnt a ton and it looks like he’s made a ton.
It goes to show that patience and persistence used well can be extremely powerful.
