Dan’s boots

I bought a pair of Adidas boots once because I saw Dan Carter wearing them.

I didn’t tell anyone this but I secretly thought to myself ‘now I’ll be able to play just like Dan’.

It took me a few pairs of boots to realise that Dan’s genius did not lie in his footwear.

I think we can see a parallel with our creative idols.

If only we could find out what pencil Stephen King writes with or what kind of type writer Neil Gaiman uses then we’d be more creative.

But it’s not that easy.

In fact I don’t think the tools matter at all.

I think a Stephen Pressfield book will be just as good whether he used a typewriter, a laptop or pen and paper.

We each have our preferred equipment but at the end of the day it’s not the boot that makes the magic but the foot inside it.
