Practicing judgement

I think the internet provides a fantastic platform for the creative to develop courage.

Now just because you post to the internet doesn’t mean everyone will see it but everyone can see it.

Some will argue that it’s not art until an audience is involved and I can see what they mean. It’s not a play until the audience see the actors perform.

If someone came along and said ‘I’m the new best artist in the world but no one is allowed to see my work’.

We wouldn’t automatically crown them number 1, we would have to see their work first.

Knowing all your lines and hitting your mark is all well and good in private but can you do it front of an audience?

Thereby the internet gives you free access to a mass audience. And as I said earlier this doesn’t guarantee eyeballs on your work but it does guarantee the fear of judgement.

It’s no coincidence that you’re more nervous to publish a blog post than finish a private journal entry.

Uploading your work to the internet provides practice of a vital component in the creative process – overcoming the fear of judgement.
