After a session of Prosecco and painting I came to realise that painting wasn’t as difficult as I previously thought.
Although there are parts of my finished painting that I deem atrocious and loath, there are also parts that I am pleasantly surprised with how they turned out.
I found that easy to follow instructions de-mystified painting a decent looking sky.
I also felt confident that with practice I could improve my skills and close the gap between my version and the original I was replicating.
‘Then again’ I thought to myself ‘is that the skill I want to be investing in?’
Following instructions? Copying and pasting?
What about the skill the creator of the original displayed?
The skill of going first. Of forging a new path. Of using a blank canvas to create something new and worth copying.
As Seth Godin would say that’s the difference between a painter and an artist.
