10 tips for better stories

Eat walnuts & cashew nuts
Drink at least 2 litres of water a day
Write with a 2B pencil
Save all your brainstorming for the morning
Read as many books as possible

Jake is a very shy boy.
Everyday he would sit at the back of class and say nothing.
Then one day, a pretty girl spoke to him.
Jake fell in love right there and then.
Jake went and took a public speaking class to improve his confidence.
After Jake finished the class, he asked the girl out.
And they lived happily ever after.

I realised why I prefer some self help books over others!

It was easier to change my life when I could remember what the book said.

The authors who took the time to create a journey provided me with a much better chance of remembering their points.

Whether as those who threw down 10 disconnected tips fell by the wayside never to be remembered again.

I’ve studied marketing theory a lot more recently than I’ve seen the original Star Wars trilogy but I bet I can recall ten times the information about ‘A New Hope’ than Aaker’s Brand personalities.

So if you’re preparing a presentation or crafting a blog post I would recommend telling a story.
