You’re driving along a country road, happy out, when all of a sudden a car comes up behind you. And not just behind you but right behind you.
Their car is one or two feet away from your car.
Now the happy peaceful mood evaporates.
You start to think:
‘I’m not going fast enough for them and I’m annoying them.’
‘I should pull in and let them pass’
‘Or maybe I should speed up?’
The driver has said nothing to you, they haven’t beeped their horn or flashed their lights and yet their presence behind you is making you nervous.
You start to assume all these negative thoughts being projected onto you by the stranger driver.
When it is just as likely that they were relieved to see you. They may have been delighted to be given the excuse to slow down and take it easier.
All you can see is a car in the rear view mirror, it doesn’t necessarily mean someone in the world hates you.
