If you ever needed proof that nobody can spot the hits then you need look no further than ‘Gemini Man’.
According to Wikipedia the movie recorded losses of up to $111.1 million.
I don’t find that stat shocking because, unfortunately, I saw the movie in a cinema and I thought it was dreadful. I wish I could get the time and money back.
But the movie remains a fantastic example of the gambling required for creative work.
Let’s consider the alternative, if Clive Owen, Ang Lee and Will Smith all knew this movie was going to be a flop then why would they get involved?
Why would they risk harming their reputation with the negative association of a terrible movie?
One can only assume that they didn’t know.
It must’ve felt like a hit to them.
The script must have come across as appealing, the action sequences exciting and the plot intriguing.
The studios were so convinced of the film’s success that they invested $138 million into it.
If people can spot the hits, then why are there flops in the world?
