I take umbrage with affirmations around outcomes.
I think it’s lying to yourself and it builds attachment to an outcome. Attachment that, if it doesn’t come true, will be more devastating than if you had recognised the truth.
That’s why I like Seth Godin’s phrase so much:
‘This might work, this might not work’
It acknowledges that failure is a possibility.
Saying ‘I already have the job’ mid way through an application, leads to over confidence and complacency in my opinion.
Granted ‘this might work, this might not work’ doesn’t lend itself to inspiring a lot of self belief.
But that’s where I think ‘can’ can work.
