‘I just need to make sure my new boss likes me first then I can relax’
‘Do you think I’ll get more likes with the red shirt or the blue shirt?’
‘Did you like my Albanian picnic story?’
Up until recently I thought the pursuit of mutual liking was a worthy goal.
You surround yourself with people you like and hope they like you back.
But then I was reading Fiona Harrold’s ‘Be your own life coach’ and she defined self worth as:
“the degree to which you like yourself”
An interesting thought, I thought!
So…
Do you like yourself?
Do you like the way you are with your boss?
Does your flirting make your skin crawl?
Do you enjoy your pedantic side?
It’s funny how often the opinion of others is considered but arguably the opinion of ourselves is much more important.
Just because you got the laugh doesn’t mean you will be proud of the joke.
In the move ‘Field of Dreams’ they say:
“Build it and they will come”
In this blog post, I’m going to say:
“Like yourself and friends will come”
