When you tell a joke in person, you can sense pretty quickly if it’s bad or not.
The presence or absence of laughing helps immensely.
But jokes over text aren’t as convenient.
The reactions are not instantaneous and you have to rely on others to articulate their opinions.
You may well have made Ollie howl with laughter but if he doesn’t text you that, you’ll never know.
Alternatively the perks of telling a bad joke in person is that it has the good sense to be forgotten quickly.
The trouble with bad jokes over text is that there is now a record and records stick around.
We have proof that you made a terrible joke because there it is! At the bottom of the group chat making everything awkward.
