That last coat

Andrew Price gave a great talk about the habits of highly effective artists (you can watch the talk here).

In this talk, circa 7 minutes 45 seconds, Price discusses his drawings and his estimates for time spent.

Price reckons that 60% of his time equated to 90% of his learning.

The other 10% of learning could be chalked down to ‘perfecting’.

Which includes activities such as zooming up real close and altering a microscopic section of the drawing, a change you’d probably have to be looking for to notice!

So the question is – was the effort worth the reward?

Does that last coat of polish make that much of a difference?

I would say no.

I don’t think it makes enough of a difference but I think that last coat of polish isn’t for the audience, it’s for the artist.

I think it makes them feel better about the work.
