Mandatory presentations

If the presentation was optional I’d say the teacher would have very little, if any students, signing up.

‘Risk making a fool of myself? No thanks!’

If the presentation was mandatory then you would see a highly motivated class.

The majority of students won’t be motivated to do the best presentation possible but driven to avoid failure.

The target is not to do anything mortifying.

The students either know firsthand or have seen the horror of a group of people laughing at a humiliated individual.

So these students don’t mind if they’re boring or obviously reading from the slides as long as they get through this experience alive.

I believe that this powerful reservoir of motivation stems from the fear of judgement.

I also think it’s quite funny that in a world revolving around motivation, achievement and success the fear of failure/judgement isn’t used by more.

Don’t wait for someone to make the presentation compulsory, make it compulsory for yourself on a regular basis.
