Always on expectations

The plague of ‘always on’.

These ‘always on’ times mean there are more emails and texts sent than ever before.

It also means that work emails sent after hours are getting closer and closer to becoming common place.

Not only is it easier than ever to unconsciously become a workaholic but it has also ratcheted expectations to astronomical levels.

“Why haven’t they replied to my email yet? I sent it half an hour ago. The lazy bum is probably skiving off. You know what? I’m going to say it to their manager. I’m going to tell them I suspect this individual to be a slacker and that they should be fired!”

The nightmare of everyone attempting to ignore their email long enough to try and get some proper work done.

I’d say thats the number one cause of work related breakdowns today – trying to meet unreasonable ‘always on’ expectations.

If you don’t care about your email response time or if you are secure in the pace you work at then you won’t need meditation or anti-stress lessons, you’ll be fine in the ‘always on’ world.
