Gauging good

How do you know if you’re good at something?

Well if you are a professional athlete and the public regularly proclaims you the G.O.A.T., you can take that as a good sign.

If you’re not in the public’s eye but many people compliment you on your performance, that helps.

If compliments are a rarity you might gauge your abilities on a feeling of being on top of things. A sense of calm and comfort with what you do.

But what happens when compliments are hard to come by and the workload prevents you from attaining that ‘on top of things’ feeling?

In that case I think it leads to a lot of people determining that they’re bad.

The impossible workload exacerbates a limiting self belief that you’re not good enough and this enhances the stress of not getting more done.

You could be amazing and not know it because you’re gauging your performance on the wrong thing.
