It seems like the Beatles legacy will never die!
It’s been 50 odd years since their breakup and another documentary has just come out about them.
They are usually uttered in the same breath as ‘greatest ever’.
If you wanted to read about them, you could pick from hundreds if not thousands of published books.
They’re individual names are synonymous with ‘genius’.
I don’t feel I’m taking any risk by saying the fab four are revered as musical gods.
And yet…
And yet they look so human in ‘Get Back’.
They laugh, they joke, they fart about, they get frustrated.
Watching them struggle to make an album is extremely empowering in my opinion because it just shows that they are not divine beings.
They didn’t saunter into the studio, bang out each song in one take and have the album done by lunch time.
They hit dead ends repeatedly. Their lyrics go through countless iterations. They stop and start constantly to correct each other.
At times they’re unsure of themselves and look to each other for reassurance.
It’s so human!
Even the reason they break up is so ridiculously ordinary.
It’s just a communication problem.
A plain old boring communication problem.
There’s probably one in every work team in every office across the globe.
And I reckon even a group counsellor fresh out of college could’ve solved it and kept them together.
I think this is empowering to know because if mere humans were capable of this kind of legacy that means other humans could do it too.
If they were actually gods it would be a different story and an easy excuse not to try replicate them.
