Finding the right fit isn’t exclusive to tailors.
I think any creative will attest to a stage of trying on options looking for the one that ‘feels right’.

I’m going to replace ‘told’ with ‘informed’ because ‘informed’ just feels more right.
Or how about the following conversation?
A – What if the character committed murder?
B – No Jerry would never commit murder. But I could definitely see Jerry thinking about murdering someone over something really petty. Yeah you know what I’m going to write that!
It’s all about finding the ‘right’ fit!
