The Amy episode

How much for this mug?

Eh … make me an offer

It’s the Amy episode of Lovesick and Angus is just getting used to selling. Luke has taught him the power of reframing. Instead of giving the price outright Angus is now asking potential buyers to make him an offer.

Both Luke and Angus are hoping that this question sidestepping helps boost their profit margins.

It will work in their favour when the buyer proposes more than L&A would have charged.

It will work against them when the buyer low-balls and L&A have to refuse them.

It’s an interesting change in the dynamic.

When a customer asks for a price they’re just indulging a curiosity. They’re exploring an interest and as soon as they hear the price they can determine if it’s in their price range or not.

When a customer has to make an offer and it doesn’t suit they get rejected and feel all those nasty emotions that come with it. Most likely never returning to L&A’s stall again.
