Prophecies in Reality

There are so many prophecies in stories.

Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Wheel of Time – they all have them.

But prophecies in real life are so rare.

When we try to look to the future, we gaze into the very short term and we guess.

We say things like ‘its supposed to be sunny‘ but we bring an umbrella just in case.

In the stories, the characters treat the prophecies like they are set in stone.

They have a mindset like you can avoid it all you want but it will remain your destiny.

There is an air of inevitability about it.

Maybe we should have prophecies in real life because it appears to lead to some serious personal development if these stories are anything to go off.

But maybe it’s too scary to write your own prophecy, because what if we fail and it breaks our heart?

Maybe we need an all knowing mysterious figure who seems to know us spookily well to make the prophecy for us and then we ponder it for a great time before finally choosing to fulfill it.
