When Eddie Murphy says his son-in-law tased him, we think he's joking. When Kim Kardashian says her sister slapped her, we sense drama and scandal in the offing. I reckon our perception of the individual tells us how serious to take their comments. Eddie jokes all the time, so this must be a joke.

I always think it's a great shame when common sense is abandoned for fear. It's a sad day for fans of courage. But, ultimately, a reminder for empathy when fear flexes it's considerable muscles on an intelligent, self aware, logical adult.
