Picking the team

I’ve played rugby for a few teams but there were two clubs in particular where there was a stark contrast in cultures.

With club A, everyone knew the starting team at least 2 days in advance. Everybody showed up. Everybody knew what they were doing.

With club B, the coaches picked the team based on who showed up on the day. You didn’t know what tactics you could use because you didn’t know who would show up, who would be playing where and what tactics they knew.

Playing for club B we ended up winging it a lot and as a result, weren’t half as effective.

Safe to say I preferred playing with club A.

As a team it becomes a lot harder to win when the commitment is unreliable. And there’s nothing quite like the force of a team all on the same page and moving in the right direction.
