Watching ‘the usual suspects’ knowing who keyser soze is takes away the majority of the fun. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a great movie and worth watching back once you know who he is but all the excitement is in the first viewing.
That’s why spoilers are so annoying. They rob all the tension and surprise you enjoy as an audience member from not knowing the outcome.
I know a guy who, when the 7th Harry potter book came out, read the ending first just to know how it all ended. He couldn’t take the tension of not knowing.
But that’s where all the excitement comes from, the uncertainty. That’s why you get jaded after a few Bond films, you’ve worked out the formula. He’s going to get the girl, he’s going to defeat the bad guy and he’s going to save the day. There’s no longer any tension about whether or not he’s going to save the day, it’s a given. The only excitement these days comes in from the ‘HOW’ he’s going to save the day, the action, the problem solving etc.
The excitement comes from not knowing.
