Greg is just about to make his international debut and he’s nervous. He’s known for a week he’ll be starting and it’s haunted him all week.
He’s scared because what if he’s not good enough to play at this level? He’s played well for his club, enough to warrant international selection, but this is a step up and what if he can’t handle it? What if he’s not good enough?
The fact that the coach clearly thinks he’s good enough (having picked him) has completely escaped his mind and instead is racing with thoughts of embarrassing basic mistakes.
But anywho the match starts and after a few minutes Greg gets a feel for the game and realises this isn’t rocket science, he knows how to play this game and in fact he feels like he could beat a few players here.
Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes of uncomfortable exposure to realise that the little voice in your head was misleading you. The disastrous end of days image that he painted doesn’t match the reality.
