There are two blogs I subscribe to – Seth Godin’s and Hugh MacLeod (Gaping Void).
Both blogs post daily but one does all the writing and the other outsources.
It was actually through Seth that I came across Hugh’s blog. Seth recommended one of Hugh’s books, which I read and loved, so I instantly went over and subscribed to Hugh’s blog.
I soon discovered that Hugh is unlike Seth and allows guest posts on his blog.
It’s unfortunate because:
“I came here for Hugh not this guest poster promoting their latest book”
I take it that Hugh doesn’t do this for free, I’d hazard a guess that authors buy the opportunity to speak to Hugh’s audience.
And that’s the difference between the two.
Seth Godin has over seven thousand blog posts and he has written every single one.
Seth knows that I came here for him and he doesn’t trade in my attention and trust for a fee.
He does the inconvenient work of sitting down and writing a blog post everyday. I have to admit I don’t understand all of them, some of them sail right over my head but I still read them. I read them because each one is an example of his commitment and more often than not he hits the mark and blows me away with his insight.
Seth decided that my trust in him is more valuable than selling a guest posting spot and for that I trust him more.
