Matt’s students

Matt is a Maths tutor and at the moment he only has two students: Mary and Muriel.

Matt loves teaching Mary, she is a great student. She shows up everyday with the homework done and is always eager to learn.

The same can’t be said for Muriel. Muriel is present against her will, forced to go by her mum. This translates into a lot more effort for Matt. Matt has to remind Muriel to show up, he has to chase her for the homework and he has to repeat things numerous times because Muriel isn’t paying attention.

The tiny difference between the two student’s mindsets makes a world of difference to Matt.

Matt could do the admirable thing and take the approach of

‘I’m only going to teach those who want to learn’.

Thereby firing Muriel and her mother as clients because chasing requires a lot of time and effort and life’s too short for that.

Matt’s energy is better spent delighting students who actually want to learn like Mary.
