‘Why?’
‘I don’t know’
‘Why?’
‘Because I don’t know’
‘Why?’
‘Alright I’m sick of this, I’m leaving.’
I imagine this is what it would be like to be coached by a robot. No adjustments, just blind repitition until the coached comes up with a revelation.
That’s why I believe coaching will always be safe from AI, it’s an interaction based on humanity.
A good coach will empathise with the human being across from them, dig deeper and ask tough questions to help the coached find the answers.
It is not a matter of simply ticking the boxes.
‘I asked all the questions I’m supposed to, I don’t know why you haven’t had an epiphany’.
A good coach will be carefully reading the interaction, they will monitor all the human elements of the conversation, the tone of voice, body language and vocabulary used. They will trust their instincts and know when they’ve found the root of the problem. They won’t be distracted by made up revelations to change the subject.
Unpacking emotions will most likely be messy, unique and complicated.
A robot is just too logical for this task. It’s a job for a human if they can take the time.
